Tenure-Track Search

Status of Search:

We have received over 200 applications for the tenure-track position and wish to thank everyone that submitted an application. On January 10, we sent email notification to those candidates that are no longer under active consideration. Interviews were held in late January/early February and the position was filled by mid February. Rejection letters to the final candidates whose applications were still considered "active" were sent out shortly thereafter.

In case you are interested, there is a very strong possibility that we will be hiring an additional one-year sabbatical replacement for the 2006-07 academic year. If you would like to be considered for this position, please send a letter indicating your interest along with a list of courses you are capable of teaching in order of preference.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Dickinson College invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2007.

Dickinson College is a highly selective four year liberal-arts college with an active and innovative science program. The Department is housed in a new state-of-the-art building, equipped with smart classrooms, research labs, a planetarium and observatory. The physics major curriculum features a project-centered hands-on curriculum beginning with the internationally known Workshop Physics, an activity-based introductory course developed here at Dickinson. Every senior major completes a year long research project in collaboration with a faculty advisor and other students. Faculty members also teach introductory courses for non-majors as well as first-year seminars and cross-disciplinary courses. The Department graduates approximately ten majors per year, 40% of whom are women.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics and be able to develop a research program that actively engages undergraduate students. The department is particularly interested in applicants with expertise in optics, but all specialties will be considered. Applications should be sent to:

Dr. David P. Jackson, Chair
Dept. of Physics & Astronomy
Dickinson College

Dickinson College is committed to diversity, and we encourage candidates who will contribute to meeting that goal to apply. Applications and nominations of women and minorities are strongly encouraged.
